About Us

When it comes to service, Meatland is a cut above.

The family owned and operated business was established in 1959 when two couples, Paul and Betty Noack and Lionel and Jean Hanmer, purchased the former Argue’s Meat Market and changed the name to Meatland. The business moved to its present location on Midland Avenue in 1967. Twelve years later, Paul and Betty became the sole owners when they purchased the Hanmer’s share.

In November 1994, keeping with the family tradition, Paul and Betty retired and their son Kurt Noack and his wife Christine took over the business. Over the years the company has been growing steadily. Kurt and Christine have taken great pains to make their store more attractive and customer-friendly. Improvements include fresh paint, new shelving and checkout counter, enhanced lighting and wider aisles.

Customers coming in for the first time are often surprised to find the store carries a full line of groceries, from canned good, prepared foods and baking needs to a full line of paper products. “Some of our customers do all their shopping here, saying they enjoy the service and speed with which they can come and go. Our aisles are not quarter mile long and there is always someone available to offer assistance,” explained Kurt.

Meatland currently employs a staff of seven. Most have been with the company for a lengthy period of time. “I feel the success of our business is largely due to the commitment and dedication of our staff, and the friendly personalized service they extend to our customers,” said Kurt. Perhaps the most striking addition is the Fred Lenz mural which graces the storefront. The mural, a depiction of a turn of the century butcher shop, was commissioned to commemorate the history of not just the business, but the town and the surrounding community as well.

Of course the core of the business, as reflected both in the mural and in the store’s name, is meat. Meatland guarantees it's beef for tenderness and flavor and is second to none in the area. Unlike other stores, the meat at Meatland is displayed inside a full service meat counter. It is unwrapped, so customers can choose the cut and quantity they want .. not the prepackaged portions available in the meat section of most major grocery chains. At Meatland, there is always a butcher on duty. That means it is never a problem to have meat custom cut or ask for cooking tips and new ideas.

Boxed meats are also available, offering retail customers the same value and quantities usually reserved for wholesale customers. Jumbo hot dogs are popular items for those who enjoy firing up the barbeque and our Texas beef burgers are second to none!

Many local families also take advantage of Meatland’s freezer orders.“They find it convenient to purchase a variety meat pack from us on a monthly basis. They can choose from a pre-selected list or customize a package to suit their budget and preferences,” said Christine.

Let Meatland help you celebrate the Christmas season. Each year, Meatland puts more than one thousand fresh turkeys and almost as many black forest hams onto local tables so be sure to order your turkey early. Because it’s such a busy time of the year, let Meatland take a load off entertaining needs by assuring you that your fresh turkey, ham or specialty roast is ready and waiting

Shopping at Meatland won’t blow your budget either. “We compare prices and we are certainly competitive in all areas of our business,” said Kurt. Meatland also offers free delivery of orders over $60 for customers in the Midland-Penetanguishene area.

Kurt and Christine would like to take this opportunity to thank all their customers for making Meatland the thriving business it is today. Drop into Meatland during business hours Or call 705-526-9331 to place a custom freezer order or request a specialty cut.

  • "My first order from here was about 20 years ago and it was for summer. I asked for all roasts to be steaks instead. Oh they put so many steaks in there and the quality was better then any steak I’ve had from anywhere else! And then the rest of the store! Bulk foods, spices, the largest pack of eggs I could find in this area. And every busy worker was friendly and helpful. If you needed help to your vehicle they would help. "
